Process of Web Design
There are 5 steps in the process of designing a website from scratch.
- Initial Meeting
This is where we meet with the potential client and discuss the cost and process of building their website. The customer can present their information and we can decide what type of website would be best for them.
- Brainstorm
This is where we come up with ideas for the website. We think of placement of objects, types of images needed, logos, etc.
- Prototype time
A prototype of the website is created, client can view the website and decide if it can be a foundation for their website.
- Design time
This is the most labor intensive part of the process. It can include onsite work, such as taking photographs, getting additional information for the site, and coding of the website. Designers can now decide on the inner workings of the website and create a great experience for the viewer.
- Approval
Website is uploaded and approved by the client, if all is OKed then a copy of the website is given to the client as a backup.
Time and Cost
Website creation time and cost is often the most important factor of their website. Usually websites from start to finish take around 30 days to complete. Some take far less time, and some take far more. If the client has all the information ready and layed out, we have completed websites in less then a week.
Our website design starts out at $500 which is around 10 hours to complete. The more content and custom items on the site allow more time, which rises up the cost of the website. e-Commerce and very custom websites start around $1500
Breakdown of the cost is:
- Graphic Design (such as editing photos, creating logos, menus, clip art.
- Stock photography costs (if you need a photo, there is a cost to buy the rights)
- Coding of actual website (initial design takes the most time, pages thereafter take much less time.)
Search Engine Optimization
Often websites without optimization do not get much viewing because it never gets picked up on search engines such as "google" "MSN" or "yahoo".
Good optimization is not only writing clean code that the search engines can decypher, but also keywords inserted into the code of the website.
During our website creation we use special techniques to allow your website to climb higher to the top of search engine results. Often it does not happen immediately, but we use analysing tools down the road to tweak keywords and pages to the search engine dynamics.
